Frazier Calls on Perlmutter to Donate Contributions from Corrupt Congressman
July 29, 2010 – Ryan Frazier, candidate for the 7th Congressional District, called on Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-Golden) today to donate $9,000 in contributions from disgraced and corrupt Congressman Charlie Rangel (D-New York) to charity. Colorado Democrat Reps. Betsy Markey and John Salazar have already agreed to return or donate their contributions from Rangel.
“This is exactly the culture of corruption that plagues Washington,” Frazier said. “Ed went to Washington to change it, and instead, Washington changed him.”
Rangel has been at the center of a national firestorm since allegations surfaced that he unlawfully accepted privately funded vacations to the Caribbean, used his congressional office for financial gain, and evaded paying taxes on a luxury rental home in the Dominican Republic. He has been charged with 13 counts of violating ethics rules by the House Ethics Committee and could face expulsion from the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Ed claims to be an ethical Congressman,” Frazier continued. “It’s time for him to prove to the people of the 7th Congressional District that he isn’t part of the business-as-usual Washington establishment. So far, I’m not convinced.”
While running for Congress in 2006, Perlmutter said, “Quite frankly I’m not going to be lectured by a Republican on ethics, given what’s been done by Mark Foley and Tom DeLay.”
“Congressman Perlmutter should do the ethical thing and donate the money to a charity here in the 7th Congressional District,” Frazier concluded. “I’m happy to help him find one.”

Perlmutter Votes for More Bureaucracy and Deficit Spending in the Dodd-Frank Bill
July 1, 2010 – Ed Perlmutter today joined with Nancy Pelosi to pass new financial regulations through the House of Representatives. While the House decided to drop the $19 billion bailout tax on the financial system, it instead replaced it with TARP funds that were originally slated to help pay down the deficit. Once again, Congress has decided to pass legislation that worsens the national debt load—which already exceed $42,000 for every single American.
“The number one goal of any financial reform should be to encourage and spur real economic growth while protecting consumers,” said Frazier. “The Senate should do the right thing and only agree to a bill that would stop tax-payer funded bailouts, reform Fannie and Freddie, and ensure that Congress holds regulators and bureaucrats as accountable as Wall Street.”
Perlmutter’s vote comes on the heels of his open criticism of Wall Street after voting for the bailouts and accepting tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from the very financial sector he publically scolds. Perlmutter’s vote perpetuates the “too big to fail” mentality by not only allowing bailouts to continue, but also by imposing new capital charges that will create additional barriers for new firms to enter the market.
“Now more than ever, businesses need regulatory certainty, and this bill only adds to the air of confusion,” continued Frazier. “By handing more power to government bureaucrats, this legislation means companies will have a hard time properly assessing the risks involved with their investments.
“It is downright irresponsible for the incumbent to vote for a bill that does nothing to address two of the main culprits in housing market collapse, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The taxpayers are already on the hook for over $145 billion in bailouts to these companies, and there is no end in sight. In the face of Ed Perlmutter’s hypocrisy on this issue, voters should wonder exactly who is calling the shots on this bill.”

Democrats Putting Politics Before National Security?
June 21, 2010 – Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-AZ) said that in a recent private meeting with President Obama, the President said, "The problem is, if we secure the border, then you all won't have any reason to support comprehensive immigration reform.”
If the President is indeed holding increased border security hostage until Republicans in Congress support an amnesty bill, the American people are going to be outraged, but not all that surprised. Whether it’s engaging in backroom deals to ram through a health care takeover or refusing to follow through with their responsibility to pass an annual budget, time after time the Democrats have been putting politics before principle.
Ryan Frazier said, “If this is true, it is yet another example of how far off track the Democrat establishment is in Washington. The American people don’t want elected officials using our country’s security as a political bargaining chip. They want the federal government’s top priority to be protecting our country—and that means securing our borders and making sure that we know exactly who is coming in and out of our country.”
